Tasting wine is an experience

We have been talking about a few of the nuances of wine tasting on our social media.  But what is the point?  If you like it you like it, right?  Well yes, that is exactly the point.

If you like wine, you will seek out that perfect bottle and that perfect moment.  But there is more that effects the experience than just the wine.  Arguably it is everything from the music you are listening to, the décor, the time of day, what you last had to eat, the glass, the label, who is present etc.  With this in mind, you can make decisions with what you are trying to do.  If you are trying to judge a wine, then isolating all those variables is what you are aiming for.  Do side by sides with bagged bottles tasting the wine one after the other.

For most of us we are just trying to enjoy, not critique the wine.  In this case, slow down, take your time, swirl the glass look at the color, smell the wine, enjoy the conversation, have something that pairs well with the wine.  Do everything you can to get the best experience out of that bottle because after all wine is an experience so make it the one you want!
